Children’s Dental Health

Children's Dental Health

At Lonsdale Dental Practice we believe children’s dental health is highly important. It is essential to educate children in the importance of taking care of their teeth from an early age. We also understand the importance of making children feel relaxed when they visit the dentist.

We encourage parents to bring their children to the practice from an early age to promote a feeling of familiarity with the dental environment whilst also enabling the dentist to monitor them throughout their childhood and maintain a high standard of children’s dental health.

We focus on teaching children correct tooth brushing techniques and diet choices. We also provide fissure sealants that coat and protect the teeth as well as a range of fluoride applications to reduce the risk of decay.

Top Tips For Healthy Teeth And Gums In Children.

You should brush your teeth twice a day for 3 – 4 minutes. Brushing your teeth helps to remove plaque which causes tooth decay and can lead to gum disease. Use a tooth brush that is recommended by your dental hygienist with a tooth paste that contains adequate levels of fluoride for your dental situation. Change your tooth brush every three months as it will become worn out and less effective.

Cut down on sugar attacks throughout the day:- the recommended allowance is no more than 3 times a day breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cut out fizzy drinks and sweets, choose sugar free options e.g fruit, cheese, water and milk. Chew sugar free gum after meals.
