Does the root of your tooth show? – We can help.

Gum recession is the process in which the margin of the gum tissue that surrounds the teeth wears away, or pulls back, exposing more of the tooth, or the tooth‘s root. In order to solve this problem a procedure called gingival grafting, or gum grafting, can be carried out.

When your gums recede,  gaps form between the teeth and gum line, making it easy for disease-causing bacteria to build up. If left untreated, the supporting tissue and bone structures of the teeth can be severely damaged, and may ultimately result in tooth loss.

At Ashton and Lonsdale Dental Practices, Dr Barry Rimmer frequently carries out a procedure called gingival grafting, or gum grafting, where an area of exposed tooth root is covered with grafted oral tissue. The procedure can be carried out on a number of teeth and can only take from 40 minutes complete.
